classic meat & cheese lasagna recipe

1 lb dried lasagna sheets uncooked
7 cups meat sauce
2 lbs container of whole milk ricotta
1 egg
1 salt and pepper to taste
1 cup freshly grated cheese
12 oz fresh mozzarella, thinly sliced
5 fresh basil leaves

(for the meat sauce:)
1 medium onion, chopped
3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 lb ground beef sirloin
1 lb sausage: different kind: (no pork)
1 salt and pepper to taste
1 cup red wine
3 cans of tomato puree
10 few leaves of basil

1. 1. In a large pot with extra virgin olive oil, add onions; medium high heat. cook 4 mins:

2. 2.Add ground meat & sasuage: break up with wooden spoon. Let cook 10 mins till fully cooked through:

3. 3.Add red wine: stir. Add 3 cans of tomato puree: and a little bit of water:

4. 4.Put on medium-low, put lid on halfway, and leave alone for 4 hours. stirring occianlly:

5. 5.When done, season with salt and pepper: put in fresh basil: stir. take off heat.

5.Cook the lazanaga pasta:

6. 6.In a bowl, add whole milk Ricotta: egg, salt and pepper: add grated cheese. mix till combined.

7. 7.In a lazanaga dish, add olive oil, and take pastry brush and brush around and sides of dish:

8. 8.Take some meat sauce, and put half in lasanaga dish: add lasanga pasta (cooked), line the bottom, over lapping a little: take rocitta mixture, and spread on pasta on top: take meat sauce and spread on top.

9. 9.Add mozzeralla slices on top: and repreat layer again with the lasanga pasta: ending with mozzeralla cheese slices.

10. 10.Put in oven 375* for 45 mins: let cook for 20 mins. sprinkle fresh basil on top when cooled.
