1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
4 eggs, separated
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup milk
1 cup flour, sifted
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup sliced almonds
2 pints of strawberries, washed, hulled, and sliced
1/2 pint whipping cream
- Level → Medium
1 Line 2 circle cake pans with wax paper.
2 Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
3 Cream together butter and sugar.
4 Mix in egg yolks, vanilla, and milk.
5 Sift in flour and baking powder, stir to combine (batter will be thick).
6 Divide evenly between the two circle cake pans.
7 Beat egg yolks until stiff peaks form, fold in 1 cup granulated sugar.
8 Spread meringue evenly on top of batter in both cake pans to within 1/2 inch of the edge of the pan.
9 Sprinkle with sliced almonds.
10 Bake at 325 for about 25 minutes or until lightly browned.
11 Remove and let cool.
12 Whip the whipping cream
13 Remove cakes from pans. Cover top of one cake with whipped cream and sliced strawberries.
14 Top with second cake, slice and enjoy!
