Claudie’s banana nut cake

1/2 cup Crisco (I like the butter flavored but I use what I have on hand) 1 12/ cups sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla 3 sliced bananas 2 cups flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 3/4 tsp. soda 1/2 cup buttermilk 1 cup chopped nuts

1. Cream Crisco and sugar, add eggs and beat well; add vanilla and bananas, beat well; Mix together flour, salt, baking powder and soda; add to banana mixture alternately with milk. When well blended add nuts, mix well and pour into one oblong pan of two round cake pans. Bake at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes or until done. Let Cool. Frost with Caramel frosting. CARAMEL FROSTING: In heavy saucepan melt; 1/2 cup oleo, add; 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar and cook over low heat 2 minutes stirring most of the time. Take from burner and add 2 cup milk. Let cool. Add 1 tsp. vanilla and 2 cups powdered sugar gradually, beating well. Nuts may be added if you wish. This is good on any cake not just banana.
