3 dark chocolate bars (100 g each)
2 cups black beans, drained and rinsed
4 eggs
2/3 cups agave nectar
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pinch of cayenne

Preparazione → 15 min

Cottura → 45 min

1. Preheat the oven to 350 °F.

2. Cut the chocolate into small pieces.
By using dark chocolate, not only are we eliminating a ton of the excess sugar and dairy that is found in milk chocolate, we are also adding some components that have possible health benefits. Dark chocolate contains flavenoids, which may help to lower blood pressure, decrease cholesterol, lower blood clot risk, and improve mood!

3. Place the chocolate into a microwavable bowl, and melt it in the microwave.

4. In a food processor, combine the beans and eggs.
I prefer this recipe to the typical brownie recipe for several reasons. The first is that this recipe is gluten free. The large majority of brownies contain flour, which those who cannot consume gluten cannot normally eat. Rather than replacing the flour with a typical gluten-free substitute, the new recipe uses ground black beans. Normally, a flour-like substance may be created by grinding dried black beans. However, by starting with non-dried black beans, we are able to replace some of the liquids from the first recipe, such as the butter. The starch in the flour is typically what helps hold the brownies together, so we must increase the number of eggs to act as a glue for the improved recipe.
A second reason why I prefer the new and improved recipe is that there is less unwanted fat! As most people have probably heard of, there are “good” and “bad” fats. The “bad” fats, or the ones that we should try to avoid, are trans fat and saturated fat, which may be found in many packaged foods. Butter is one example of a fat that if avoidable, we should try to consume less of. Black beans, on the other hand, are a form of good cholesterol.

5. Add the agave nectar, baking powder, vanilla, cayenne, and chocolate.
A third reason why this new recipe is preferable is that it does not contain processed sugar. Basic sugar that is found in brownie recipes has no nutritional value and has a direct impact on blood sugar. By replacing sugar with a natural substitute, such as agave nectar, we are able to eliminate this effect. Agave nectar will still provide that desirable sweet flavor that we are looking for, without having as big of an impact on blood sugar. This is due to the fact that agave has a low-glycemic index. According to BlueAgaveNectar.com, agave syrup has a glycemic value of about 27, while that of sucrose (sugar) is about 92.

6. Process until smooth.

7. Pour the batter into a 9x9 inch greased pan.

8. Bake for 45 minutes.

9. Allow to cool and cut into squares.
