Apple cake

Ingredients for 9 pieces

8 ox plain flour
1 heaped tsp baking powder
4 oz caster sugar
4 oz butter
2 large apples, peeled and diced
1 egg
1 tsp cinnamon
0.5 tsp nutmeg
0.5 tsp allspice
2 cloves, ground (not essential)
Milk to mix

N.B. spice proportions very twitchy. Don't try saffron. Don't bother trying pears instead of apples, they are too bland!

Directions

1. Mix all apart from the apples in the mixer.

2. Milk to mix to easy plopping off spoon.

3. Briefly mix with apples.

4. Bake in lined round tin or loaf for 1 hour at gas 4. Done when knife stuck in is clean.
