Aval appam( appam without coconut)
Recipe by
White rice/ pachari-2 cup
White rice flakes/aval/poha-1 cup
Yeast-1/2 tspn
Sugar- 1tblspn
Baking soda- a pinch
Salt
1. Mix warm warm water and sugar. Add yeast. Cover with a lid and keep aside for 5-10 minutes.
Soak rice in water for 4-5 hrs.Grind the soaked rice to a fine batter by adding enough water.Add water carefully; batter should not be too watery.
2. Meanwhile, soak aval by adding little water( just to loosen the crispness ).Then add the aval to the smooth rice batter and grind for another1 -2 mints.
3. Transfer this batter to another big bowl for fermentation .Add yeast solution. Mix well. Cover with a lid and keep aside for 8 - 10 hours or overnight.
4. Add enough salt and baking soda 10-15 mints before making appams.
