Chicken chaaru curry

Chicken-1/2 kg
To marinate
Turmeric powder-1/2 tspn
Pepper powder-1/2 tspn
Salt
For gravy
Onion-1 big sliced
Ginger-1 small piece crushed
Garlic-1 tblspn crushed
Green chillies-2
Turmeric powder-1/4 tspn tspn
Coriander powder-1 tblpsn
Pepper powder-1/4 tspn
Perumjeerakam/fennel seeds-1 tspn
Cinnamon-1 small stick
Cardamom-2
Cloves-3
Potato-1 peeled and cut into cubes
Thin coconut milk-1/2 cup
Thick coconut milk-1/4 cup
Curry leaves
Coconut Oil
Salt
1. Marinate chicken pieces with ingredients listed under " to marinate " and keep for 1 hr.
Coarsely crush whole masalas ( fennel,cinnamon,cardamom and cloves ).
2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add the crushed whole masala.Then add in sliced onion and saute till they turn light brown.Then add ginger ,garlic ,green chillies and curry leaves.Saute till the raw smell goes.Then add turmeric powder,coriander powder and pepper powder.Saute for a while in low flame.
Then add marinated chicken pieces and potato cubes.Add thin coconut milk and enough salt.Cover and cook for 1 whistle in high flame and then for another 10 mints in low flame.
3. Open cooker and add thick coconut milk.Mix well and remove from fire.
4. Perfect side dish for appam,palappam,kuttiyappam etc...
