Hearty beef and bean chili

2 lbs ground beef
1 link italian sausage
1 medium onion, chopped
1 cup sliced celery
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper
1 (28 oz) can whole tomatoes, undrained, cut up
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 (15 oz) cans red kidney beans, drained

1. Heat a large saucepan over medium high heat. Add the meat and onion and saute until the meat browns and the onion is tender. Drain.

2. Add celery, bell peppers, tomatoes with liquid, tomato paste, garlic, salt, chili powder, cumin, cayenne, and pepper.

3. ***On the stove top: Bring to a boil, reduce heat cover and simmer 1 hour. Add kidney beans and simmer until thoroughly heated.

4. ***In crock pot: Pour chili into a large crock pot and cook on low temperature for up to 6-8 hours. Add the beans for the last 1/2 hour or until heated through.
