Italian sausage & cheese calzone
Recipe by
1 lb. loaf frozen white bread dough
1/2 lb. sweet Italian sausages, crumbled
1 sm. onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
1/2 tsp. basil
1/2 tsp. oregano
2 tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese
2 c. shredded Mozzarella cheese
Prep. Time → 20 minutes min
Cook Time → 30 minutes min
1. Let dough rise. Squeeze air out. Roll on floured counter to about 6x12-inches.
2. Brown sausage and drain off fat. Add tomato sauce, herbs, garlic and onion. Simmer 10 minutes
3. On 1/2 side (lengthwise) of dough, put a fine layer of sauce on the bottom of dough.
4. Then add a layer of the sausage mix, mozzarella cheese, and ending with parmesan on top.
Fold dough over and pinch edge with the fold on the underside of greased cookie sheet.
With pastry brush cover top of loaf and sides with cooking oil and sprinkle on garlic powder.
5. Bake in 400 degree oven for about 25 minutes until dough browns a bit. Cut in slices.
