Kanava/squid thoran

Kanava/Koonthal/Squid Thoran-1/2 kg( cleaned and cut into pieces )
Grated coconut-3/4 cup
Onion-1 small chopped
Ginger-1 tspn
Garlic -1 ttspn
Green chillies-2
Tamarind juice-of gooseberry sized ball.
Mustard seeds-1/4 tspn
Fenugreek seeds-1/4 tspn
Turmeric powder-1/2 tspn
Red chilli powder-1/4 tspn
Curry leaves
Coconut oil
1. Crush together grated coconut,ginger,garlic,green chillies,half of curry leaves
turmeric powder and red chilli powder.
2. Soak tamarind in 3-4 tblpsn water for about 10 mints.Then sqeeze out the juice and keep aside.
3. Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds.Add chopped onion and curry leaves. Saute till the onions turn light brown.Then add crushed paste and saute till raw smell goes.Add kanava/squid pieces and tamarind juice.Mix well.Sprinkle enough salt.Cover and cook for about 5-7 mints or until kanava is cooked well and all the water dries up.( don't overcook; as they become rubbery).
4. Finally add 1 tspn oil and saute for 1 more mint in low flame.Remove from fire and cover with a tight lid.Let it rest for 5 mint.
Enjoy with rice.
