Kattie Parippu/Cherupayar Parippu Curry of Kitchen Snippets - Recipefy

Cherupayar parippu/moong dal-2 cup
Green chilli-1
Dry red chilli-1
Curry leaves
Grated coconut-1 cup
Cumin seeds/jeerakam-1/2 tspn
Coconut oil-1 tspn

1. In a pan dry roast moong dal for 2-3 mints till a lightly roasted smell comes.
Remove from pan ,transfer to a bowl and soak in 3 cups of water for 1-2 mints.

2. Meanwhile grind together grated coconut and cumin seeds to smooth paste by adding little water.Keep aside.

3. Put the soaked moong dal/parippu in a pressure cooker,add green chilli ,dry red chilli,1 tspn oil ,sprinkle enough salt and add 2 1/2 -3 cups of water.Cook for about 3-4 whistles.The parippu should be coarsely cooked and mushy.If it appears to be too thick ( it should be thick but of pouring consistency )add 1/2-1 cup of boiling water to it .

4. Then add the coconut paste to it ,mix well and cook for 1-2 mints in low flame.Remove from fire.

5. Serve hot and enjoy your sadya.

6. Notes:In some parts of kerala, 1-2 cloves of garlic are used along with coconut and cumin paste.
