Masoor dal/red lentil-1 cup
Turmeric powder- a pinch
Salt
Small onion-1 sliced
Green chilli-1 sliced
Ginger-1 tspn grated
Tomato-1 chopped
Red chilli powder-1/4tspn( Adjust )
Coriander powder-1/2 tspn
Cumin powder-1/4 tspn
Curry leaves
Salt
Oil
For seasoning
Oil
Cumin seeds-1/4 tspn
Dry red chili-2
Curry leaves
Pinch of asafoetida/hing/kayam
1. Pressure cook masoor dal by adding turmeric powder salt and enough water.Once cooked mash the dal with a wooden spoon.
2. Heat oil in a pan and saute green chillies,small onion and grated ginger.When the raw smell goes,add tomatoes and saute till the tomatoes become soft.Then add corinader powder,red chilli powder and cumin powder.Saute till oil oozes out.
3. Add mashed dal to the masala and mix well.Sprinkle enough salt.Add little water if needed.Cover and cook in lowest flame for about 5-10 mints.
4. In a separate pan, heat oil for seasoning. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add the red chillies and asafoetida and turn off heat. Pour this seasoning over the dal .
5. Serve hot with rice /roti
