Mathi Mulakittathu of Kitchen Snippets - Recipefy

Sardine/mathi-5 (clean and make deep cuts along the fish pieces)
Small onion-3 chopped
Ginger-1tblspn
Garlic-3-4 podes
Green chillies-1
Tomato-1 chopped
Red chilli-1- 1 1/2 tspn(use kashmiri chilli powder)
Turmeric powder-1/4 tspn
Tamarind juice-taken from a goosberry sized ball
Fenugreek seeds-1/4 tspn
Curry leaves
Salt
Oil

1. Heat oil in a pan and fenugreek splutter seeds.
Add small onion,ginger ,garlic and green chillies.Saute till the raw smell goes.

2. Lower the flame and add chilli powder and turmeric powder.Saute till the raw smell of the masala powder goes.

3. Add chopped tomato and stir well till they become soft.To this add tamarind paste.Add 1/4- 1/2 cup of water,sprinkle enough salt,mix well and let the gravy boil in high flame.

4. Add the fish pieces and curry leaves to the boiled gravy.Swirl the pan and make the fish pieces fully immersed in gravy.

5. Lower the flame ,cover and cook for 15 mints till the gravy thickens and fish pieces are well cooked.

6. Note; You can use the same method for preparing other fishes like King fish /Seer fish .
