Navaratan dal kurma/mixed lentil curry

Mixed dal-1 cup( soaked overnight )
Onion-1 sliced
Ginger-1 tspn
Garlic-1 tspn
Green chillies-2
Tomato-1 big
Turmeric powder-1/2 tspn
Kashmiri red chilli powder-1 1/2 tspn
Coriander powder-1/2 tspn
Homemade garam masala powder-1/2 tspn
Coriander leaves
Oil
To roast and grind
Onion-1 sliced
Whole garam masala-cardamom-2,cinnamon -1 small stick,cloves-3,fenugreek seed-1/4 tspn
Cumin seeds-1/4 tspn
Dry red chilli-3
Fennel seeds-1/4 tspn
Cashew-10
1. Pressure cook the mixed dal adding enough salt for apprx 2-3 whistles.
2. Heat oil in a pan and sauté onion till they start to change colour.Then simmer the flame to lowest and add all the other ingredients listed under "to roast and grind".Saute for apprx.1 mint/or till a nice roasted flavour comes.Remove from fire and let it cool down.Then grind it to a smooth paste by adding enough water.
3. Heat oil in another pan and add sliced onions.Saute till they become golden brown.Then add crushed ginger,garlic and green chillies; sauté till the raw smell goes.Now add in chopped tomato and cook till it becomes soft and mushy.Add all the masala powders and sauté for few seconds.Then add the ground paste and cooked dal.Mix well ,add enough salt and 1/4 cup water.Cover and cook for 5 mints.Remove from fire and enjoy with roti/chapathi.
